Terms

This site is under construction and we would appreciate your input. Please leave a comment containing terms that you would like to see here, but were unable to find. We’ll have them posted within 24 hours. Thank you for your help!

HSA – Health Savings Account – This is an account where you can set aside money for your health care expenses. The money is tax deductible, earns interest, and remains yours. You never lose what you don’t use, as with a flexible spending account.

PPO – Preferred or Participating Provider Organization – This is a group of doctors and faciclities that have agreed to be part of a certain providers network. You can go to the doctor of your choice, within the network, without a referral or authorization.  There are exceptions, so please check your plan summary.

Short Term Medical - This kind of insurance is set up for persons who are in between jobs and without regular major medical coverage. It is often a cheaper alternative that COBRA benefits; however, pre-existing conditions and preventative care are not covered. There are exceptions, so please check your plan summary.
